The all new Kia ceed will make its world wide debut at this years Paris Motor Show and will go on sale across Europe this December. Designed specifically to suit European tastes, the ceed is a significant step towards achieving Kias giant aim of 100,000 sales by the end of the decade.
The concept version of this model, also named ceed, stole the show at ExCeL and the unveiling of the super styled production model is set to do the same at Paris.
This latest C Sector offering from Kia is to be the first model produced at Kias new state of the art factory in Slovakia. In response to market trends and buyers needs, the new ceed is designed and built in Europe for the most European of tastes.
Kia began reinventing themselves with the introduction of the Picanto less than two and a half years ago. This was the first in a new generation of Kia products and the whole range has been updated since that time.
The ceed marks another step forward in Kia design and with the recent appointment of Peter Schreyer, the man behind the Audi TT, Kia has set the bar high for its next phase of growth in Europe.

Latest Kia concept car to make its debut at Paris Motor Show
pro_ceed previews all-new Kia ceed sporty hatch to launch in 2007
European design demonstrates Kias evolving design language
Kia Motors has revealed the first images of its latest concept car that is scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month. The strikingly styled showcar, named pro_ceed, is based on the forthcoming three-door sporty hatch version of the all-new Kia ceed C-segment model. This five-door family hatchback has its world premiere (in production-ready form) at Paris and will be manufactured at Kias first-ever European assembly plant in Slovakia from November 2006.
"Following on from the original ceed concept car we exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, our design brief for pro_ceed was to create a teaser for the all-new Kia ceed sporty hatch which will become the third model in the ceed line-up (after the five-door and wagon) from December 2007," explained Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer Kia, European Design Centre.
When Kias designers created the ceed sporty hatch, they set out to maximise the differentiation between the five-door and three-door ceed models as much as possible, without losing the family likeness.
Exterior - the same, but strikingly different
Consequently, the pro_ceed actually looks very similar to Kias new ceed sporty hatch model with its dynamic, muscular and masculine nature.
"Colour plays an important role in generating the bold image of the pro_ceed concept. We call the exterior colour Cashew and it is a daring colour for a showcar," observed Guillaume. "It looks almost solid, but does have a small percentage of metal flakes that give a discreet sparkle. I think the colour works well in contrast with the bright metal and dense matt black elements of the exterior, like the door mirrors and the special road wheels, showing off the cars solid forms to perfection."
The wheels are a two-part design, featuring five double-spokes arranged with a recessed black power-coated centre and brightly polished convex perimeter spokes. These dramatic wheels sport 265/30 R19 low profile tyres.
Key attributes which the pro_ceed and sporty hatch models will have in common include the lowered roof line (down by 25 mm compared to the five-door ceed) and shallower side windows ringed in chrome trim that create a robustly sporty window graphic.
Interior - creating a strong performance feeling
The pro_ceed interior is designed to accommodate four people and is trimmed to give a strong performance feeling with deeply matt surfaces. Like the exterior, the cab uses bright metal and dense matt black elements, but in the interior these appear to float amidst areas of contrasting leather trim.
In the earlier Geneva Kia ceed showcar this floating effect was one of elegant sophistication, in the pro-ceed the feeling inside the cabin is very different, bolder, tougher and more racy. The four seats feature bucket-style backrests with aluminium alloy mountings for the head restraints.
Facing the driver, the three recessed dials of the instrument panel have separate metal cowlings set beneath a top cowling that also appears to float above the dashboard. The short, leather-shrouded gear lever is set in a bright metal surround topping a black centre console that rises between the front seats to position a battery of minor switchgear within easy reach of the driver.
The dense matt black trim of the upper dashboard is continued around the upper sides of the cab. The lower panels are trimmed in special Pilot Brown distressed leather that has a brown/black patina and the quality of an old flying jacket - "leather with a history and a story to tell" as Guillaume enthuses.
Throughout the vehicle, the floor is trimmed in Carbon Leather - a special material in which a pattern of carbon-fibre has been embossed into the surface of the leather.
Designed in Europe, made in Europe, for younger, sporty Europeans
The pro_ceed creative process began in April when Kias multi-national design team at Russelsheim, under design chief Gregory Guillaume, signed-off work on the production Kia ceed sporty hatch turned its talents towards the Paris showcar.
"Like the five-door ceed, which has its world premiere at Paris, the new ceed sporty hatch will be a truly European product, designed in Europe and made in Europe. But whereas the five-door is a great handling family car, this version of ceed will be targeting younger drivers in search of a more overtly sporty look to go with the sporty drive," observed Guillaume.
"With pro-ceed we are accelerating Kias drive towards design excellence and once more demonstrating its tough not rough design ethic. We have seized the opportunity of the Paris Show to create a teaser car that really will build eager anticipation of future Kia models," concludes Guillaume.

Kia's cee'd range continues to expand - hot on the heels of the regular five-door hatch and the three-door sporty concept comes this, the cee'd sport wagon.
The new model sits on the same floorpan as the five-door hatchback, but it is 1.49m high and features a novel tailgate design. Shaped like an inverted 'L', its hinges are mounted well into the load area so the tailgate rises almost vertically. Kia claims the design gives better access to the load area.
Like the regular hatchback, the sport wagon still looks tame when compared to the rakish original cee'd concept. But we find it a more pleasing design, if only because our expectations of an estate version would be more limited.
The cee'd sport wagon will be built at Kia's plant in Slovakia. It will be shown at the Paris motor show but won't go on sale until September 2007. That's a full nine months after the regular hatchback, which hits showrooms this December.

Due to go into full production in the middle of 2007 and on sale throughout Europe from next September, the vehicle is the next in Kias European-designed, European-engineered ceed line-up to be built at the Zilina factory in Slovakia.
The 4470 mm long, 1490 mm high, car features a tailgate shaped like an inverted L with its hinges set back over the load area so the tailgate rises almost vertically, giving enhanced access to the large-capacity cargo area that has additional storage below the floor.
The vehicle has the same 2650 mm wheelbase as the five-door hatchback ceed that makes its world premiere in production-ready form at the Paris Motor Show and goes on sale in Europe from December 2006.
When the new model goes on sale next September, customers will be offered an extensive choice of five engines, three trim/equipment levels and 12 exterior colours.
The introduction of the ceed family five-door, estate and three-door sporty hatch marks a major turning point in Kias history and will introduce a qualitative revolution for the brand.
