Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they are 'reasonably optimistic' that Richard Hammond will make a good recovery after his crash in a jet-powered car.
News continues to emerge from the hospital where Richard's wife Mindy and their daughters Willow and Isabella are at his bedside.
We have received well over 4,000 emails today from Top Gear readers wishing Richard well - and the inbox is growing as each second ticks by.
The accident happened during filming for the new series of Top Gear at the former RAF airfield in Elvington, near York.
Richard was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary's neurological unit. A hospital spokesman said this morning: "He has seen some improvement overnight, but remains in a serious but stable condition."
We spoke to Jeremy earlier today - he visited Richard and Mindy in Leeds and you can read his statement here. Like us, his thoughts are with Mindy and the family.
Obviously we expect the crash will be fully investigated by the Health and Safety Executive and the BBC.
The BBC said in a statement: "We are pleased to hear that Richard has improved slightly overnight, but we continue to be concerned about his condition and we are keeping in touch with his family.
"The circumstances of this accident will be fully investigated by the BBC, and this process began last night.
"We will, of course, be fully co-operating with any investigation by the police and the Health and Safety Executive. Until the BBC's investigation is complete, it would be inappropriate to comment on the details of what happened."
Jeremy arrives at Leeds
Jeremy and James have arrived at Leeds General Infirmary to visit Richard and his family.
Jeremy told TopGear.com: "Richard remains in intensive care. Obviously at this time both he and his family are the most important concerns we have. It must be devastating for his wife Mindy and his two utterly adorable children.
"I would just like to say how heartened Richard will be when I tell him just how many motorists and truck drivers on my way here wound down their windows to say they were rooting for him. Both James and I are looking forward to getting our Hamster back."
In addition, we've already received a number of emails at TopGear.com wishing Richard well. If you'd like to add your thoughts, please email us.
We've posted some of your messages on the website and do our best to make sure Richard receives them all.

Dar din fericire, se pare ca nu e cazul de asa ceva, desi scriau ceva de leziuni craniene. Sa speram ca isi va reveni complet.
Coloana si capul sa fie ok, ca restul se mai repara...

Richard is out of intensive care and doctors say he's making "satisfactory progress".
He remains in a serious but stable condition overnight after his crash in a jet-powered car.

Daca nu e cazul, insemna ca s-au grabit astia, si atunci cu atit mai bine, ii tin pumnii. Ma rog, chestiile astea nu ramin niciodata fara sechele, deci ma indoiesc ca o sa fie ca inainte.

I was chuffed to see him and although hes muttering, he seems much like the irritating little shit I know and love. Even when he cant say much, he seemed to make as much sense as he does when he can talk normally.
Having seen him today I do believe Richard will make a full recovery from this awful crash and, when hes back on his feet, Im looking forward to going down to the pub with him.

Top Gear stars Jeremy Clarkson and James May say they've visited with co-presenter Richard Hammond following his serious accident earlier this week, and they're confident he'll be okay. "I've had a conversation with Hammond today," May said. "Not a long one, but it was a conversation [] I'm not a doctor but I am his mate and I believe that deep inside the Hammond I know is perfectly intact." Meanwhile, Mr. Clarkson reports a similarly encouraging encounter. Clarkson says he jokingly told Hammond, "the reason you're here is because you're a c driver." The injured Hammond then reportedly smiled at Clarkson. "It was an amazing moment, very moving," Clarkson said. Hammond's condition has been downgraded from 'serious but stable' to 'stable.'

The hospital said Hammond suffered a "significant brain injury". Today a spokesman added: "Doctors say Richard Hammond is making satisfactory progress.
"This morning he has been moved from intensive care on to a high dependency unit.
"His condition has been downgraded from 'serious but stable' to 'stable'."
Hammond's wife Mindy is understood to have been at his bedside for the past two days.
Yesterday, May and the other Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, were at the hospital.
Clarkson said Hammond smiled at him after he told him he was a "c driver".
He told The Sun: "I said: 'The reason you're here is because you're a c driver'. He then smiled at me.
"It was an amazing moment, very moving." Hammond was airlifted to hospital after the 370mph jet-powered Vampire dragster veered off the runway, flipped over several times and crashed on to the grass.
He is understood to undertaken a number of runs before the one which ended in the crash. May had been due to make the run but Hammond had taken over.
Last night medics said Hammond's injury gave them "cause for concern" but added that they were "reasonably optimistic" he would make a good recovery.
Neurosurgery experts have said the fact that Hammond was able to regain some consciousness in the immediate aftermath of the crash could bolster hopes of a good recovery.
Regaining consciousness or being able to speak immediately after such an accident would point towards the brain beginning to fight back against initial injury, said neurosurgeon John Firth, of Nottingham.
But he added that the first 10 days could be crucial in determining the outcome, with doctors likely to be on the lookout for swelling, haemorrhaging or clots.
