The Saxo is on its way to being history. Really, Citro�n's polular subcompact's days are numbered with the introduction of this new little car, the C2. As of right now, around the world the Saxo is the choice car for students who need cheap transportation. In VTS trim the Saxo is an amazing handler as well as performer with few cars, larger and more expensive being able to keep up. But then again there's little to say in this day and age there is little room in the market for an ageing, unsafe compact, hence its replacement the C2.


As an entry level Citro�n, it has more quirk than your average Citro�n, however it has been condensed into a package that's just 3.66 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.31 meters. These compact dimensions mean for easy driving in the city, thanks to a tidy 9.6 meter turning circle. This puts the C2 at 19 cm smaller than the next biggest car in the Citro�n line, the C3. The interesting thing is that both cars will have about the same interior volume. The C2 takes on a lot of modern day company characteristics of the company, meaning large, chunky headlights, and stubby round curves.


Four engines will be available for the C2, three of them are gasoline, and one's a diesel. The base engine is just a little more than a liter in capacity, generating 60 horsepower. Much like the Saxo 1.1, the C2 with this engine will moreover than not be limited performance wise to inner city use. Second on the line is a 75 horsepower 1.4 liter engine. And on the top of the heap is a 109 horsepower 1.6 liter engine. The two more powerful engines, which were just mentioned, are available with Citro�n's Senso-Drive transmission. Otherwise, regular manual, and automatic transmissions are available. As for diesel fans, there will be only one engine available. A 68 horsepower 1.4 liter HDi turbodiesel is the engine the French carmaker has chosen.


Just like the C3, the C2 is full of useful technological gadgets. Most of the following equipment is either standard or optional, depending on trim level. City life is made easy with electrical power steering that adjusts its assist according to road speed. Electronic air conditioning is also another one of the little benefits the C2 has on it side. A parking assist function, much like the system found in larger more expensive cars can be found with sensors on the rear bumpers. The C2 wins safety points with driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags, as well as ABS with brake assist and an advanced Electronic Stability Program.


Polularity rides with cars that are functional on the inside. The C2 is definitely one of those cars. The seats in the C2 have been hinged in a particular way, which allows for flat folding seats at the pull of a single handle. The rear split bench folds right over to the edge of the front seats for maximum carrying capacity. There is also a slight flap that can be retrieved from the floor of the cargo area. Once open, it acts as loading dock, permitting for easy lifting and moving of heavy objects. It supports up to 100 kilograms. The rest of the interior is trimmed out in bright colours and cheery accents. Perhaps this is another car that will redefine Citro�n's image.
