Alfa Romeo's 156-based GT coupe will go on sale in the UK in March next year. The GT, revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, has been styled by the Bertone studio, and whilst it's conservative compared to the earlier Brera concept car, it's a handsome-looking coupe and distinctively an Alfa. It will come with a choice of four engines, with the GTA's 240bhp 3.2 V6 the pick of the bunch; the direct-injection petrol 2.0 JTS (165bhp) and familiar 1.8 Twin Spark (140bhp) are also on offer, plus a 150bhp 1.9-litre 16v Multijet diesel.
Final specifications and pricing haven't yet been confirmed for the UK, but a high level of standard equipment is expected. Xenon headlamps, up to six airbags, sat-nav, a Bose audio system with CD autochanger, cruise control, VDC stability control and 17-inch alloys will all be offered, and there's room for detailed customization of the interior. Italian buyers will be offered two specification levels, called Progression, Distinctive and Luxury, though these names could well change for UK customers. Alfa has developed a new hi-tech microfibre upholstery cloth, unimaginatively called Alfatex, which will be used on the seats and door panels of mid-range models and offered in grey and black or a two-tone finish; full leather trim in black, blue, tan, red, grey or beige is available too, depending on model and exterior paint colour chosen. The GT comes in classic Alfa Red or Luxor Black solid shades, or a choice of 10 metallic greys, reds, a black or blues - including the charmingly-named Light of Amalfi Grey. Nice. Prices are expected to be pitched at around a 1500 premium over equivalent 156 saloon models.
