About 63,830 miles each year since 1966
The owner of a 1966 Volvo P1800 is about to reach the three million miles mark.
If you're a long-time WCF reader you might remember back in 2006 we posted an article about Irv Gordon who at that time reached the 2,500,000 mile (4,023,360 km) mark in his beloved Volvo P1800 from 1966.
Fast forward to present day and Gordon is close to hitting 3,000,000 miles (4,828,032 km) in the same car. The secret to the vehicle's impressive longevity? Gordon took it to the exact same certified Volvo technician for more than 15 years.
His plans are to reach the impressive three-million milestone this September in Alaska which is one of the two U.S. states he never visited. The 73-year-old retired science teacher said "I never had a goal to get to one million, to two million. I just enjoyed driving and experiencing life through my Volvo".
If our math is correct, Irv Gordon drove his Volvo for approximately 63,830 miles (102,724 km) yearly for 47 years in a row. One of the reasons for the car's high mileage - aside from Gordon's passion for driving - has to do with his 125-mile (201 km) daily commute during employment.
