911 GT3 RS: Even Faster & Lighter!

There have been three 911 RS cars in history. The first of the two came along in 1972, and was built on the Carrera 2.7. It was a lean, mean stripped out version that was painted red and white. And of course, we shall all remember its ability to trounce any automobile during that period of time. Then, in 1984 we saw the RS come back again, in the form of the 911 Club Sport RS. It too was another lean and mean stripped out version of the fastest naturally aspirated engine. Then there was nothing. But come October of this year, Porsche will be bringing back the RS, in the form of the 911 GT3 RS.


Of course, the GT3 RS fallows in suit when it comes to the paint job. All the cars before were clothed in a simple white with red wheels, and red badging. The upcoming GT3 of course, shares these same traits. The regular GT3 wheels have been masked over and sprayed red. This extremely sporty version of the GT3 is perhaps the most honed down road version of the car you can get. Though the horsepower rating remains the same, they've stripped out yet another 50 kilograms of clobber from the car's curb weight. Of course, performance is the thing to benefit, running to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, 200 km/h in under 10 seconds, and finally running out of breath at 306 km/h.


But the question of how they did it will always be prompted, considering the original GT3 is light enough as it is. Whereever Porsche saw an ounce of fat, they've trimmed it away, even if it meant replacing an already lightweight part. Many of the panels, including the hood and massive rear spoiler have been swapped out in favour of ones made from carbon fiber. The rear glass on the GT3 RS is made from lightweight plastics. Porsche have even gone to the extent of tweaking the front and rear suspension to shed extra weight. The gearbox, a full six speed manual, has its ratios shortened down, and is hooked up to a heavier flywheel. Is it all worth it? Well, we'll have to see.


I had a friend who attempted to order a 911 GT3, but simply was out of luck when the dealer could not accept another deposit. Well, to all of you who've succumb to this problem, get yourselves out there! Porsche will be making an additional 200 GT3s, in the form of the RS. Be wary, there will be only a handful heading your way - 200 are set for the world. The pricetag for the RS is also at a premium. Expect to pay �120,790 ($188,130 CAD, $139,300 USD) for this machine. Oh, and you get to choose the car's sticker colours - either red (as seen here) or blue.

Concluzie: O alta versiune RS care va face senzatii pe sosele!!!

Este o masina cu care cei de la Porsche se pot mandri. Nu ca si in cazul lui Porsche Touareg. Ma scuzati, am vrut sa spun VW Cayenne :)

Se vede ca 360 CS a facut o impresie puternica. Totusi cam multa lauda pentru 50 kg scazute din GT3 care oricum era greu. Poate acum cu aripa aia noua o sa aibe si ei ceva downforce (GT3 era pe pe zero cu apasarea).
