Volkswagen is preparing the next-generation New Beetle for a 2012 debut. These renderings depict what the car with the iconic name could look like in its final form. Although the New Beetle used this name in many markets around the world, reports suggest that it will lose the "New" prefix and return to being just a Beetle.
The car will gain quite a notable amount of interior space, especially at the rear. It will be bigger both inside and outside, and feature LED technology in the front and rear exterior lights clusters. Muscular wheel arches will underscore its intentions of attracting a younger, feistier set. Moreover an eco-friendly BlueMotion and a hot R version could be added to the range for the first time. Although an R version leaves us skeptical, the recent announcement of a new VW performance orientated R division could make it reality.

Sebastien Loeb, Citroen, Rally GB 2009The next generation of World Rally Cars is set to run with 1.6-litre turbocharged engines - with ratification of that decision due at the March meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.
FIA president Jean Todt insists that nothing had been formally agreed, but said that decisions would be taken at the WMSC in Bahrain next month.
Asked when news about the World Rally Championship's future engine package could be expected, Todt replied: "Soon, soon. We have the next World Motor Sport Council meeting in March and that would be the appropriate time to take some decisions and make some announcements."
Ford and Citroen have both developed the chassis for next year's cars, but both are having to test it with alternative engines. Ford is running an S2000 engine and Citroen is employing the current C4 WRC motor.
Todt added: "Can you understand the frustration of the FIA and the frustration of the promoter that we only have two teams competing? I think people would rather have five teams than two and that's what we are trying to address."
Citroen team principal Olivier Quesnel said he was confident that the switch from two-litre to 1.6-litre power units would happen following Monday's meeting of the Global Working Group.
"I think I am confident now," said Quesnel. "We had the meeting and I understand 1.6 litre turbo is in a good way. So I think it's going on well. And we will have, I hope, some good news soon."
Despite previously stating that Citroen would not start its development of the new engine before regulations were rubber-stamped, Quesnel said work on the new motor was already underway.
"I can't lie to you, we started already!" he said. "I hope the DS3 will run with the new engine sometime in the summer. It depends on what exactly will be the regulation. Now we knew since the meeting that it will be 1.6-litre turbo. I hope in September at least it should be okay."
Ford team boss Malcolm Wilson said his M-Sport operation was in a similar position.
"We're doing studies and evaluations [into the new engine]," said Wilson. "We have to otherwise we won't be running in time for next January. Our target is September to have the engine up and running."

"Opel/Vauxhall has a clear vision to be a leading European manufacturer of high quality, desirable automotive products, based on German engineering," company CEO Nick Reilly said in a statement.
Part of the grand plan includes launching as many as eight vehicles this year alone. Cars such as the all-new Meriva, Corsa, Astra Sports Tourer and the Movano are on this list. In 2011 another four vehicles will be released into the market. One of them is the Ampera, a car destined to become Europe's first extended range electric car. It will be the poster boy for Opel's alternative propulsion technology and should share some inner workings with the fabled Chevrolet Volt.
The company says all these plans and more can be achieved in part using money it aims to borrow. It reckons a figure of €3.3 billion (US$4.5 billion) will be enough to run the company while it restructures. European governments hosting Opel/Vauxhall operations such as the UK, Spain, Poland and Austria are potential co-funders and €1.2 billion (US$1.6 billion) in outright loans or loan guarantees is being requested of them. Germany has already been asked to contribute €1.5 billion (US$2.06 billion) towards the total.
While things are moving towards a black 2012, Opel will start developing its own cars in the meantime. "If they are based on a vehicle architecture developed elsewhere, they will return to Rüsselsheim early to ensure they deliver on the Opel/Vauxhall brand promise," said a company statement.

VERSUS
P.S. Apropo de ideea ca Sportage ar fi cel mai urat SUV compact... Puteti spune sincer ca (din acelasi unghi, si strict din poze, nahhh...) nu e mai bine proportionata si nu are detalii mai placute ochiului decat RAV??
