Lexus has unveiled the LS600h � a performance hybrid version of its new flagship � at the 2006 New York International Automobile Show.

The all-wheel-drive LS600h will be launched in Australia in the first half of 2007.

It will be the world�s first vehicle of any class or category to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain.

Available only in long wheelbase in Australia, the LS600h hybrid combines the best of Lexus� luxury, technology and performance.

The vehicle will build on the performance hybrid strategy to be released with the GS450h in May followed by the RX400h later this year.

The LS600h will combine an all-new five-litre V8 petrol engine with combined massive, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack.

It will deliver a peak, combined output of more than 320kW.

�The flagship LS600h, as with the entire Lexus performance hybrid program, is about Lexus stretching its reign as a technology and performance luxury leader,� said John Roca, corporate manager, Lexus Australia.

A new all-wheel-drive system will give superior handling, while a newly developed dual-stage electronic continuously variable-transmission will deliver the hybrid flagship�s considerable power.

With electric motors providing infinite torque from rest, the V8 hybrid system will deliver power seamlessly with impressive acceleration and passing speed.

The LS600h drivetrain is recognised as the automotive industry�s most advanced petrol-electric hybrid system. It is anticipated that it will provide 12-cylinder engine power with V6 fuel economy � estimated at approximately 14 litres/100km.

As a SULEV-rated (Super Low Emissions) vehicle, LS600h is estimated to produce just 20 per cent of the smog-forming emissions of a conventional five-litre V8.

�Obviously we save the best for the flagship. The original LS400 shook up the luxury auto market back in 1990, and the LS600h follows that tradition,� said Mr Roca.

�There is nothing currently available � or to my knowledge even in planning stage � that can offer LS600h�s immense power with its surprising fuel economy and low emissions.�

As released in New York, LS600h will feature a suite of world-first safety systems, such as Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS), which can anticipate and act on possible collisions with pedestrians.

LS600h�s interior is predictably indulgent. Its 5151mm wheelbase will be 122mm longer than that of the LS460 available in Australia from November this year.

A host of Lexus-level luxury appointments include a four-person seating configuration with a fixed rear console and fold-out table, and a right rear-seat 45-degree recliner with ottoman and vibration massage.

A 19-speaker premium Mark Levinson stereo and 19-inch DVD fold-down screen are standard across the new LS line.

Lexus unveiled the all-new LS 600h luxury saloon at the New York Auto Show today, marking another major advance in the development of its hybrid power model range. The LS 600h is the world�s first vehicle to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain, featuring a combination of a 5.0-litre petrol engine and two high-output electric motors.

The LS 600h has been designed and engineered to achieve exceptional levels of performance, style and safety, its opulence and technical brilliance matched by its practicality and efficiency. In short, it is a car in a class of its own.

HYBRID V8 POWERTRAIN

The Lexus Hybrid Drive system in the LS 600h is a further development of the technology already used to great effect in the RX 400h and GS 450h. It combines an all-new 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine with large, high-output motors and a new large capacity battery pack.

This arrangement will endow the LS 600h with an unmatched balance of environmental efficiency and performance, with a peak combined output from the powertrain of more than 430bhp (435 DIN hp). It is the most advanced petrol-electric hybrid power system the motor industry has yet seen, delivering power and performance on a par with modern 12-cylinder engines, with fuel efficiency that matches a conventional V8 unit.

To harness the system�s prodigious power and ensure excellent handling stability, the LS 600h uses a new mechanical all-wheel drive system. The LS 600h also benefits from a new dual-stage electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission (E-CVT), ensuring smooth, linear power delivery and an impressive turn of speed for overtaking manoeuvres.

Low noise and vibration levels are characteristic of the hybrid powertrain and the LS 600h is set to define new standards for quiet running in the luxury saloon class. To help achieve this, the vehicle�s accessory motors and switches have also been re-engineered. The result will be one of the quietest automobiles ever built.

Cam inversunat pt un non fan Merc. http://www.garajul.r...tyle_emoticons/default/010.gif Nu putem spune ca noul LS este neaparat cel mai fiabil si cel mai tare, asa cum nici tu nu poti spune ca noul S e la ani lumina de concurentii sai. In aceasta clasa, pana la urma, dicteaza doar gusturile.

Pai daca stai s'o iei cu "aduce un pic cu modelul X la busonul rezervorului si cu modelul Y la surubul de la stergator" ... inseamna ca numai Dacia are modele originale (Nova, DSN si poate Solenza). Ce'ar trebui ... sa ii faca stopurile pe lateral si grija din fatza gen cuib de randunica pentru a nu mai semana cu alt model?
Nu zic ca Lexus nu a inceput prin a copia modelele Mercedes ... toata lumea e de acord (numa Chris nu era http://www.garajul.r...tyle_emoticons/default/010.gif ) ... dar eu zic ca deja si'au format o identitate de marca proprie si nu mai pot fi acuzati de copiere a altor modele

Am vazut zilele trecute un LS 430 modelul precedent ... negru cu jante cromate ... masina de protocol a unei firme din port. Intr'adevar ... inauntru este de clasa lux ... insa designul parca prea e saritor in ochi (un fel de S blingy) ... insa noul LS are o identitate aparte si de acum si un rafinament deosebit.
