Following the recent introduction of New Mgane in September, it is the turn of New Mgane Coupe to take centre stage at the Paris Motor Show (France). New Mgane Coupe puts the emphasis on safe driving enjoyment and performance for discerning enthusiasts looking for sensations to match this coupe's striking looks but who also want a car they can use on a daily basis.
New Mgane Coupes extremely dynamic frontal-styling looks feature a grille comprising two outer air-scoops picked out by a satin-finish chrome trim that runs either side of logo, as well as a central air-intake incorporating a matt-black crossbar. The headlamps, which prolong the lines of the two air-scoops, provide the vehicle with a strong, clear personality. The crease lines of the bonnet sweep up the bonnet to the windscreen pillars and continue via the raked windscreen and sloping roofline to produce a particularly dynamic silhouette. Seen from the side, the graphic form of its glazed areas, and more especially the quarterlight, echoes the character line as it strikes rearward to suggest forward movement. Its sculpted rear-end, broad, muscular haunches and low ride-height (12mm lower than the hatchback version) ensure that New Mgane Coupe sits car squarely on the road. Its assertive character is also expressed by the form of its rear light clusters which appear to be suspended over the shoulders and which incorporate unprecedented square taillights set to a black background
The sporting pedigree of the coupe version is further accentuated by the two vertical lines that pick out the surface of the logo on the hatch. It is also equipped with an air diffuser situated beneath the bumper, while the hatch is topped by an aerodynamic lip spoiler.
New Mgane and New Mgane Coupe immediately exude a sense of robustness and perceived quality. The proportions of the two cars, the form of their beltline and their large door panels exude a feeling of protection, especially in the case of the coupe.
The interior, meanwhile, features a driving environment that makes extensive use of fluid forms. All the controls have been carefully positioned and fall easily to hand close. The interior trim has been carefully thought through to produce a range of distinct ambiences depending on equipment level.
Mgane Coupe shares with New Mgane an innovative dashboard which features an analogue rev-counter alongside a digital speedometer which is clear and easy to take in, ensuring greater visual control over the vehicle's speed. New Mgane Coupe's particularly enveloping seats have been designed to hold occupants firmly in place. The Coupe comes with the same rear benchseat as the hatchback and, thanks to headroom of 83cm, comfortably sits three adults. Thanks to its boot volume, the coupe tops its segment with a score of 377dm3 VDA. Like New Mgane, it comes with a long list of technological equipment and features traditionally associated with the next segment up: hands-free entry and ignition, while the same card remotely locks the car when the driver walks away from the vehicle, assisted parking brake, GPS navigation systems, climat automatic dual-zone system, comprehensive range of audio systems
New Mgane Coupe is fitted with the same dCi and TCe powerplants as New Mgane. Both combine frugal fuel consumption and driving pleasure. As for security of course, New Megan Coupe benefits from the same equipments as New Mgane.
Mgane Coupe's dynamic performance lives up to the promise suggested by its looks. Its assertive character is further enhanced by the development of a Sport chassis which has been engineered for even greater driving pleasure. Handling performance has been fine-tuned thanks to stiffer front and rear springs, an increased diameter anti-roll bar and a 12mm lower ride-height compared with the hatchback version of New Mgane.
The manufacturing of the six different models of the New Mgane family will be produced in Palencia (Spain) and Douai (France). Like New Renault Mgane, New Renault Mgane Coupe will be manufactured in the Spanish factory.

What is it?
This is the new Renault Megane, the car that Renault hopes will help restore its fortunes in Europe - and that's company boss Carlos Ghosn talking, not just us.
Aimed squarely at the VW Golf and Ford Focus, the Renault Megane has to work if Renault is to preserve its position as one of Europe's biggest car makers.
>> See more pictures of the new Renault Megane
The Renault is pinning its hopes on this larger, roomier model, which uses a development of the outgoing car's thoroughly decent chassis complete with new bushes and revised suspension rates.
Two versions will be available to begin with, a five-door hatchback and a three-door version with a lower roofline and sportier styling that has been dubbed the Renault Megane Coupe. Rarely has a new model had a more important mission.
What's it like?
The new Renault Megane styling is neat, modern and easy on the eye, though it lacks the outgoing car's distinctive rump and cheery panache.
It blends much more readily into the background than its predecessor; indeed, without the badges you'd be hard pressed to recognise it as a Renault.
On the plus side, the new Renault Megane is plainly bigger than the outgoing car and offers far more space to rear-seat passengers.
Buyers will be able to choose from a dense (and confusing) range of petrol and diesel engines, but the 1.5-litre dCi 110 we are testing here is likely to be the most polular version, especially as its CO2 emissions fall beneath 120g/km.
The Megane's interior does have a fresh look about it, especially the combined digital-analogue instrument pack, and the colour and cloth trim combinations look lively too.
It's good to see that not all of the car's French design exuberance has been refined away.
The Megane feels roomy, airy and its makers' claim to a heightened sense of quality also seems to be borne out. It certainly feels capable of bearing comparison with the best of its segment rivals.
On the road, the new Renault Megane has a lightness about all its controls - pedals, steering and gearchange - which eludes most of its rivals. It's a pleasant, easy car to drive.
Despite being larger than the old Megane, the new car is about 8kg lighter model-for-model, and allows the punchy diesel engine to deliver decent performance, despite its relatively small capacity.
Handling is neat, tending to understeer at the limit. The steering effort builds up a little as cornering speeds rise, but always retains impressive authority while retaining its lightness.
There's a little more body roll than others in the class allow, but nothing untoward.
On unfamiliar roads, the ride quality seems a little more relaxed than the competition, too, and road and wind noise seem to strike the class average.
In sum, this feels a decent car that offers gentle progress from its more characterful predecessor, but it's certainly not a revolutionary segment-shaker.
Should I buy one?
That depends on three things. Firstly, the deal, which has to be competitive against rival models. Secondly, residual values, a weakness of the previous generation car. And thirdly, whether you like your car with light controls.
The Megane feels quite different from the segment's profusion of firmly sprung, heavy-steering German-influenced models, which makes a nice change.
As a car that stresses comfort, in a sea of faux-sportiness, it deserves to find a band of loyal buyers.

''The French manufacturer is making big claims about the new model's interior refinement, kit list and safety equipment - potentially a wise move, considering that its chassis set-up (MacPherson struts at the front, beam at the rear) is just a modified version of the outgoing car.'' Autocar
Era si ceva concret despre refresh-ul vechii platforme si in press release-ul oficial, dar mi-e lene sa-l caut.

The previous dCi 85 and dCi 105 diesel engines have been joined by the dCi 90, the particulate filter-equipped dCi 110 - all with CO2 emissions under 120g - and there is also a new dCi with emissions of 135g/km.
Coming later is a dCi 160 with manual gearbox and dCi 150 with automatic transmission.
Depending on market, the petrol range will comprise the 1.6 16V 100hp and 110hp engines, as well as the 2.0 16V 140hp and the TCe 180. The 2.0 16V will be available from launch with a six-speed manual gearbox, while continuously variable transmission (now a staple of Alliance partner Nissan) will be introduced later date.
A new TCe 130 petrol engine will be added next spring. This was developed by the Alliance and is a new, fuel-efficient 1,397cc unit said to have the power of a 1.8-litre engine (130hp) and the torque of a two-litre (190Nm) with CO2 emissions less than those of a 1.6.

Things are really hotting up at Renault. Following the launch of the three-door Mgane at the Paris Motor Show last week, Auto Express can reveal work has already begun in earnest on a flagship Renaultsport version to replace the outgoing R26.
It’s set to hit showrooms in a year’s time with a price tag of around 20,000. The fiery hot hatchback will take on the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST in a sector that’s proved hugely successful for the French manufacturer in recent years.
We caught the performance three-door virtually undisguised at the Nrburgring race circuit in Germany – and our exclusive illustrations show how the finished model will look.
At first glance, the prototype – which was spied undergoing testing – resembles the regular three-door Mgane. Study it closely, however, and there’s a central tailpipe – a trademark of Renaultsport editions – while the wheels, tyres and brakes are much larger than on the standard model. The final car will have very aggressive styling with a deep front spoiler, lots of air intakes and a full bodykit with plastic inserts.
Under the bonnet, the car will stick with the current R26’s 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, producing at least 230bhp. The new Mgane weighs less than the outgoing model in standard guise, and the hot hatch will use ultra-light materials to
shed even more pounds.
That should lead to a 150mph top speed and a 0-60mph time of less than six seconds, plus better economy and emissions than the R26. A clever electronically controlled differential will help maximise the front-wheel-drive car’s
traction; the weight reduction will benefit handling, too.
Building on the dynamic advances made on the regular Mgane, and with better agility and grip, the new car should be fun to drive. Inside, there will be racing-style bucket seats and brightly coloured trim with metal inserts. Although the three-door will be the bigger seller, a five-door is rumoured.
So is a replacement for the current 175bhp dCi diesel, with even better economy and emissions. The company has a long history of producing special editions, so a Cup version is also expected.
The Renaultsport Mgane is set to make its official world debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show, before going on sale in the UK next autumn.

Renault Megane TCE 180 Dynamique
turbocharged petrol model is the hottest version of new Renault from launch. So, how does it rate?
How good is the new Renault Mgane? We were impressed by the 1.5-litre diesel version we drove last week (Issue 1,033). This week, it’s the turn of what will be the hottest model when the car is launched next month.
It’s called the TCE 180 – the letters stand for Turbo Control Efficiency – and it’s matched to the mildly sporty Dynamique trim.
The bodystyle is five-door only from November, with the three-door Coup joining it next year. And it’s the latter that will turn most heads: Renault has played safe with the five-door in the hope of alienating fewer buyers than its predecessor did.
Inside, the cabin is no design revolution, either, but the quality feels good. The neatest part is the instrument cluster, whose rev counter overlaps a round, digital speedometer with high-resolution LCD representations.
Activate the limiter warning and segments light up around the speedo as the pace rises. They flash once you’re past your selected maximum. This function will probably make the most sense on this particular model.
The 180bhp 2.0-litre car powers from 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds and on to 137mph. It’s typical of today’s best turbos in having hardly any lag, great response and almost diesel-like torque. A smooth, six-speed box helps.
The best news, however, is the handling. The Mgane’s underpinnings are based on the old car’s, but there’s a fresh and much stiffer front subframe on which is mounted an entirely new electric power-steering system.
And, taking a cue from the Renaultsport Mganes, there’s now much less self-centring assistance when you don’t want it. The result? Precise, natural steering which complements great roadholding, keen handling and a taut but smooth ride.
The new Mgane might not have quite the refinement of the latest Volkswagen Golf, yet it runs the Ford Focus close for entertainment. That’s good news if you happen to enjoy driving – and it bodes well for Renaultsport variants to come.

Renault Megane 1.5 dCi
Latest-generation hatchback tones down the style, but brings a host of improvements.
The family hatchback sector is the most competitive in the Europe. So, to compete with a raft of top-quality opposition, it’s vital for Renault to get the new Mgane right. The latest Volkswagen Golf raises the bar for quality and refinement in the sector, and the dynamic prowess of the Ford Focus makes it the one to beat for sheer driving fun. So we’ve driven the 1.5 dCi Mgane to see if it can challenge the best in class.
Let’s start with the looks. The outgoing model’s angular styling and jutting rear end caused controversy, although its uniqueness also won it plenty of fans. Yet the most striking thing about the new car is how much more conventional its styling is. Nowhere near as challenging, it has a low, wide stance and more conventionally handsome proportions. A version of the outgoing car’s chassis has been used, but it’s modified to make the model wider and longer. Inside, the dashboard has an understated elegance, with soft-touch materials in the upper half. Thoughtful details include chrome accents on the door handles and a rubberised feel to the centre console.
Finding a comfortable driving position is easy, thanks to plenty of seat and wheel adjustment. The instrument panel combines analogue and digital information. A centrally placed speedo displays large, dark numbers against a light background, and integrates a gearshift indicator along with a speed limiter – which goes from a static green to a flashing red to indicate the selected maximum has been reached. Elements from the Laguna saloon include hands-free entry and an electric parking brake
Trims
Three trim levels will be available – Expression, Dynamique and Privilge. The second is pitched as a sporty version, while the third is the flagship. Across the range, perceived quality is leaps ahead of the outgoing car’s. And, with a 405-litre boot, the newcomer claims class-leading luggage space.
As with the current Mgane, the suspension set-up comprises MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beams at the back. However, the set-up has been lowered and revised for superior overall responses and more communicative steering. In fact, feedback through the wheel is a highlight.
Completing the upgrade, there are larger disc brakes for improved stopping power. These are a definite improvement over those of the outgoing car. And, once again, the 1.5-litre diesel unit leaves a positive impression. It doesn’t throw you into the back of your seat, but responds smoothly from 1,800rpm – and it’s frugal. The six-speed gearbox has a clean precise change, while the ride is a good compromise between comfort and stability.
We also got behind the wheel of the 2.0-litre turbo petrol variant, which is even more impressive thanks to stiffer springs and dampers. The result is stable handling even when close to the limits, while the motor is fully alive and kicking after 1,900rpm, pushing on strongly all the way to 5,500rpm. It suffers from some turbo lag under hard driving, however, and would benefit from shorter-throw gearshifts.
As the likely big seller, the 1.5-litre diesel variant impresses with its mix of frugality, acceptable performance and genuinely enjoyable driving experience.
