Renault Announce Driver Lineup
Alonso and Piquet in 2008


Next year, double World Champion Fernando Alonso will drive alongside Brazilian rookie Nelson Piquet Jr. They will be supported by Frenchman Romain Grosjean, reigning 2007 F3 Euroseries Champion and a product of Renault's driver development scheme, in the role of test driver.

"Fernando and Nelsinho will form one of the most exciting driver line up of 2008," commented Renault F1 Team Managing Director Flavio Briatore.

"We are delighted to be welcoming Fernando back home to the team where he enjoyed his greatest success. His abilities as a driver and a team leader are well known, and we look forward to forging another strong partnership. What's more, he knows the team well and how we operate; he will feel comfortable straight away in this environment."

"Nelsinho is one of the most promising young talents in motorsport. After his success in GP2, he has spent a year learning the ropes as our test driver and getting to know the team; he is now ready to step up to the next level," Briatore said.

ING Renault F1 Team President Bernard Rey commented: "The entire team has been working flat out over the past months to return to the front of the field, and a top-line driver line-up is essential to achieving our targets. Our recent technology investments, the return of Fernando Alonso to the team, and the promotion of Nelsinho Piquet, all signal our intent to return to winning ways next year.

Renault is also delighted to welcome a talented, young Frenchman to the team as test driver."

Fernando Alonso rejoins the Renault F1 Team after spending the 2007 season at McLaren-Mercedes. Alonso drove for the Renault F1 Team between 2003 and 2006, during which time he scored 15 Grand Prix victories and won two World Championships, in 2005 and 2006. He will play a key role in the team's efforts to return to the front of the field in 2008.

Nelson Piquet Jr will complete the team's race driver line-up. The 22 year-old Brazilian spent 2007 as the Renault F1 Team's test and reserve driver, after finishing runner-up in the 2006 GP2 series championship. He will make his F1 debut at the 2008 Australian Grand Prix.

The team's 2008 challenger, the Renault R28, will run for the first time at a three-day teams test in Valencia, Spain from 22 � 24 January. The car will be officially launched at Renault's corporate communications headquarters in Paris, France on Thursday 31 January 2008.

Schumi races a Taxi
and cathces the plane
On the verge of missing a flight, seven-time F1 Champion Michael Schumacher jumped behind the wheel of a taxi and arrived in time at the airport with his family, according to a report emanating from AFP.

Taxi driver Tuncer Yilmaz, interviewed by daily Munich newspaper Abendzeitung, said Schumacher asked him if he could drive the car himself. The now-consultant at Ferrari was accompanied by his wife and two children.

"I found myself sitting in the passenger seat with Schumi at my side. It was incredible," explained Yilmaz.

"He made incredible passes and drove at high speed through the curves," added the taxi driver, who was granted a good tip in addition to his fare.



The report was confirmed to German sports news agency SID by Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's spokeswoman.

She explained that the Schumacher family landed at an airport in Coburg, in central Germany, to take delivery of a dog from a breeder located in a nearby village.

Ferrari launch 2008 challenger



Ferrari this afternoon officially launched its 2008 challenger which is to be called the F2008.

The first preview images show a relatively traditional swooping front wing as well as a fairly standard rear element. Undoubtedly new model on display will undergo further aerodynamic enhancements ahead of the season opener in Melbourne.

The sidepods do however appear visibly changed over its predecessor with a raised front aspect with various aero additions to the front aimed to create maximum cooling efficiency as well as the all-important flow of air around the car.

Kimi Raikkonen is slated to shake-down the chassis tomorrow at Fiorano.

The F2008 is the fifty fourth single-seater built by Ferrari specifically to take part in the Formula 1 World Championship.

The design, codenamed internally as the 659, represents the Scuderia's interpretation of the regulations in force in 2008. A major new element of these is the introduction of a new electronic system to be used by all teams, known as SECU (Standard Electronic Control Unit) and produced by MES (McLaren Electronic Systems.) It consists of a single control unit and a software system, the development of which ends as the season begins.

Other areas affected by rule changes are: gearbox, which must be used for four consecutive events; safety, with the introduction of higher side protection around the driver's helmet; materials, with a limit to the type of composites that can be used.

As a result of these rules, there has been an increase in the weight of the car. All aerodynamic surfaces have been completely revised; however the current version will be replaced by a completely different configuration in time for the first race. In fact, an intensive and all encompassing development programme is planned to run throughout the season. The monocoque has been further cut away under the driver's legs and the side pods and engine cover are more tapered. The suspension system has been reworked and developed around the new aerodynamics.

The wheelbase and weight distribution have been adapted to meet the challenge of the new regulations and on the basis of lessons learned last year in terms of the performance of the Bridgestone tyres. Changes to the technical and sporting regulations in terms of electronics, alongside the introduction of the SECU, have led to the removal of a host of a driver aids, such as traction control and engine breaking and the electronically assisted starting system, and also mean that management of the differential, engine and gearchange are much simpler.

The gearbox casing is produced in carbon, while the transmission continues to be mounted longitudinally. For the second consecutive year the gearchange is fitted with a quick shift system, adapted to the SECU software and further speeded up. In dealing with the reliability aspect of the new regulations, Shell has played a key role in defining the lubricants for the gearbox. The braking system has been updated with new callipers and innovative concepts regarding cooling.

McLaren Unveils MP4-23 for 2008 F1 Season
Championship race is on

Yesterday the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One team revealed their new car for the 2008 F1 Championship, hours after arch-rivals Ferrari released their car. The McLaren MP4-23 will be powered by the Mercedes-Benz FO 108V engine, which is based on the flawless 2007 FO 108T. Last season's engine did not experience any failures during the 17 race weekends. The 2008 engine specifications will now be frozen until the end of the 2010 season, just like all the other 2008 F1 entries.

The new rules set by the FIA of course include the new Electronic Control Unit (ECU), developed by McLaren Electronic Systems for the FIA, which eliminates driver's aids such as traction control.

The 2008 season will also include the first night-time race, it will be driven in Singapore and Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to it. He said: �I think it will be wicked. In all my years of racing I have never competed in a night race, apart from indoor karting, so it will be something new for all the fans to watch and definitely exciting for the drivers.�

New-to-the-team Heikki Kovalainen responded in regards to the Singapore race: �It�s a good thing to do as long as everything is safe and the lights are very good, Formula 1 is quite different to football and it will have a much bigger effect if a light fails.�

The first race of the season will take place in Sydney, Australia in March 2008.

Daca sesiunea de teste de luni, de la Jerez (Spania), a fost dominata de pilotii Ferrari, cea de ieri l-a avut �n prim-plan pe campionul mondial din 2005 si 2007, Fernando Alonso. Revenit �n monopostul Renault dupa un an, ibericul a �nregistrat cel mai bun timp pe un tur de circuit (1:19,503). Alonso i-a depasit astfel pe Pedro de la Rosa (McLaren / 1:19,650) si pe Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari / 1:19,708).

alonso a facut best lap azi intr-o incercare de 2 ture, facuta seara....restul au facut tururile in incercari de peste 6 ture :), si dimineata cand erau conditii mai rele un pic
in perioada asta doar echipele stiu ce fac.....teoretic poti rula si cu multe kile sub regulament, doar de impresie pt cateva ture....nu te verifica nimeni, ai prins titlul de ziar

Mercedes Set to Take Over McLaren F1 Team?

2007 was arguably one of the most controversial seasons in McLaren F1 history capped with no drivers championship, being thrown out of the constructors championship and a $100 million fine. Far from acceptable for engine partner Mercedes-Benz who are reported to be negotiating to take a majority stake in the British team, a deal that would likely signal the end of Ron Dennis as team boss.

According the German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport, Mercedes want to have more control over the British team to eradicate errors made during the drivers title run in and are not happy with the crisis management at the height of the spying scandal. Negotiations are reported to have been ongoing since October last year.

Does this mean we will hear the German national anthem when/if we see Lewis Hamilton or Heikki Kovalainen takes the chequered flag this year?

Din cate stiu sunt doar zvonuri dar daca se va adeveri eu nu stiu daca va fi mai bine pentru echipa . In primul rand daca Ron Dennis cade de la conducere si nemtzii vor detine echipa , eu nu cred ca pe Hamilton o sa-l mai tina ceva legat de echipa . Si tare imi este frica ca o sa plece la Ferrari in sezonul 2009 sau 2010 si o sa faca o echipa invincibila cu Kimi . Britaniciii inca joaca o carte importanta in interiorul echipei si sub conducere nemteasca eu nu cred ca echipa va merge mai bine . Probabil ma insel , voi ce parere aveti ?

Una este o echipa Full nemteasca Viper si alta e sa ai jumatate din echipa din ingineri / tehnicieni germani si jumatate britanici . Asadar comparatia cu BMW nu mi se pare cea mai buna idee . Eu nu contest faptul ca Norbert Haug nu este un conducator bun , dar totusi prea taxeaza grav cele intamplate in sezonul 2007 . Ron Dennis a fost si este un lider foarte bun pentru echipa Mclaren - Mercedes iar daca el este inlaturat de la conducere eu nu cred ca e de bine .

Daca ne uitam la rezultatele lui Haug din celelalte ramuri ale motorsportului unde pastoreshte, ne dam seama ca e foarte bun! Dpmdv, o echipa Mercedes 100% va fi mult mai periculoasa.

nu puteti nega insa ca in 2007 Ron Dennis a facut niste erori grave care i-au costat ambele titluri:

- povestea cu folosirea informatiilor "furate" de la Ferrari - coroborat cu cele spuse de Mike mai sus - dupa ce nu stiu citi ani nu au facut mare brinza, surprise-surprise, in 2007 au rupt gura tirgului cu o super-masina - dar sa vezi ca nu o facusera de unii singuri...
- gestionarea foarte proasta a relatiei cu si intre cei 2 piloti - favorizarea lui Hamilton si incapacitatea de a controla conflictul intre Hamilton si Alonso.

acuma, daca Mercedes ajunge sa detina 100 % din actiuni, nu cred ca vor disparea inginerii britanici sau centrul tehnologic din Anglia.

Frank treaba cu defavorizarea pilotilor e apa de ploaie . In formula 1 sumele pentru creearea unei masini sunt de ordinul zecilor de zerouri ( suna aiurea , stiu ) . Ca sa favorizezi cu adevarat un pilot din echipa trebuie sa proiectezi altfel unele piese , sa schimbi o gramada de parametrii , teoretic nu ar mai fi 2 masini identice si in al doilea rand ar trebui mult prea multi bani pentru a creea avantaje considerabile . Si sa iti sabotezi propria masina ar fi total aberant si ilogic . Pe Alonso l-a luat gura pe dinainte si a facut declaratii in vant din invidie si aproape toata lumea l-a crezut . Si sa nu uitam ca acea "regula" cu egalitatea dintre piloti a fost impusa din cauza celor de la Ferrari de pe vremea cand Schumaher facea echipa cu Barichello .

Si treaba cu spionajul a fost iar (zic eu) o joaca de a soarecele si pisica manilulata de Consiliul Mondial , unde drept de prost a cazut Ron Dennis . In primul rand CM nu l-a chemat niciodata pe Nigel Stepney la audieri dupa ce acesta a declarat public ca in perioada cat a fost angajat la Ferrari a primit informatii de la Mclaren . Luca di Montezemolo s-a dus intr-un colt si a tacut cand a venit vorba de victoria australiana obtinuta cu o masina neregulamentara dar sustinea vehement ca Mclaren a folosit informatii de la Ferrari . Ceea ce pentru mine este destul de neclar deodata ce Mclaren isi terminase masina cu mult inainte ca un angajat Ferrari sa scoata vreun dosar cu date la iveala . Si sa nu uitam ca Mike Coughlan a primit dosarul de la Nigel Stepney . McLaren a fost penalizata pentru ca unul din angajatii echipei a fost vinovat si Ferrari nu a patit nimic .

Revenind la subiect , eu am retinerile mele . Este deja o echipa full Nemteasca in Formula 1 si s-a dovedit a fi destul de instabila din punctul meu de vedere . Nu vreau sa vad Mclaren-Mercedes pe locurile 5 si 6 la Constructori/Piloti . Si cu cine stie ce piloti . In fine , sper sa ma insel si sa fie bine .

faptul ca el s-a plans sus si tare nu inseamna ca are si dreptate. nu uita ca trulli a fost dat afara (!!) din reno in anul in care il conducea la puncte pe alonso, ca heikki a fost pus pe liber inainte sa vina alonso. e un pilot bun dar un caracter extrem de dificil cu echipa

Intr-un fel asa e ... dar totusi mi se parea si normal sa nu-l tina mai din scurt . Alonso e de ceva vreme in Formula 1 si teoretic el ar trebui sa fie pilotul mai matur , nu invers . Dar ma rog , probabil si Ron a fost acaparat de succesul lui Hamilton si isi tot repeta in gand "Vai peste ce mina de aur am dat !" neglijandul pe Alonso , dar cum am zis si mai devreme , cred ca Ron se baza pe maturitatea lui (aproape inexistenta din ce a rezultat pana acum) . Asta e . Ron imi e simpatic si a facut lucruri cu cap in echipa . Ca e om si ca si el greseste este de inteles , dar nu prea vreau sa plece de la MM .

Ceea ce pentru mine este destul de neclar deodata ce Mclaren isi terminase masina cu mult inainte ca un angajat Ferrari sa scoata vreun dosar cu date la iveala .


masina si-a terminat evolutia in ultima cursa.

Pana la urma asta e viitorul in Formula1. Marii constructori isi fac echipe proprii pe care le controleaza cum cred de cuvinta. Ferrari, Renault, Honda, Toyota, BMW. Singurii care au ramas sunt cei de la Mercedes si nu o duc prea bine. Sua ma rog, rezultatele lipsesc
