US: Fiat alliance worth $8bn-10bn to Chrysler

Chrysler has had "very constructive discussions" with the US treasury and the presidential task force on the auto industry, chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli said in an email to employees. He also estimated the cash value of Fiat's contribution to be between $8bn and $10bn based on what it would cost Chrysler alone to develop and build the vehicles the Italian automaker would help with.

"Chrysler has emphasised in its discussions that it is a viable business on a stand-alone basis, and the future is further enhanced by the proposed global alliance with Fiat," Nardelli wrote, adding that Chrysler was "working determinedly" to finish negotiations with all parties to meet the 31 March deadline specified in the treasury loan agreement.

"Throughout the process of seeking government assistance, our plan for viability has been based on a very conservative view of the auto industry, taking into account the current financial crisis and economic environment, which we believe will be with us through the end of 2009," the CEO said.

Nardelli said that, beginning in November 2007, Chrysler sensed the industry weakness before other competitors and took aggressive action to restructure. "As a result, much of the cash expense required for inventory reduction and restructuring is now behind us, and our dealers have achieved the lowest inventory levels among the domestic auto manufacturers."

Chrysler is viable as a stand-alone company, even with a conservative forecast of US auto industry sales trends, Nardelli told employees. Under the stand-alone plan, Chrysler is on track for 24 product launches over the next 48 months, including a family of electric-drive ENVI vehicles.

If Chrysler were to use the more optimistic US sales assumption levels of a competitor, the company would generate an additional US$9bn of cash flow over six years, Nardelli said. Chrysler would be able to repay all of the taxpayer debt in five years, versus starting to pay the debt in 2012, as submitted in the stand-alone plan.

"Our plan also included very conservative assumptions on net pricing. If we used even very modest positive pricing assumptions�we would generate an additional $7bn of cash flow," Nardelli said. When added to the $9bn in cash flow from stronger sales, this would produce a total of $16bn of additional cash flow, enough to pay off debt in only four years, he said.

Chrysler plans to launch 24 products in the next 48 months, "which we're confident will help us preserve, as well as gain modest share," Nardelli said. Since 1992, Chrysler had lost only 2.4 percentage points of share in total, much less than its domestic competitors.

Chrysler's electric and electric range-extended vehicles will start to hit the market in 2010, and "will clearly give us a competitive advantage in meeting both consumer expectations and government regulations," Nardelli said.

Under the proposed Fiat alliance, Fiat would make available its entire product portfolio and powertrain technology. Fiat's worldwide distribution capabilities will also be used for Chrysler vehicles, and the two companies would achieve synergies in purchasing, engineering and other areas.

"We estimate the cash value of Fiat's contribution to be between $8bn and $10bn considering the cost to develop these vehicles, platforms and powertrains from scratch," Nardelli said.

"In addition, production of vehicles for Fiat in North America will allow Chrysler to increase its plant utilisation, helping to preserve and create in excess of 5,000 manufacturing jobs," he said.

Fiat's lineup produces the lowest CO2 emissions of any major European automaker and their product portfolio complements Chrysler - allowing Chrysler to introduce vehicles in the A, B and C segments to compete with US domestic competitors.

"From a distribution standpoint, they (Fiat) are where we aren't," Nardelli said. For example, Fiat is top selling brand in Brazil and South America, and the Italian automaker has agreed to distribute Chrysler vehicles worldwide.

Nardelli said Chrysler last month gained 1.4 points of retail market share in the United States, climbing to the second spot in retail sales among domestic automakers.

In Canada, it topped sales in February for the first time in its 84-year history.

Chrysler needs to be cost competitive in Canada and was seeking concessions for its Canadian operations in line with those requested by the US treasury for Chrysler overall, Nardelli said.

"We've aggressively restructured our business to reflect the economic realities, significantly improved the fuel efficiency and quality of our product line and created a conservative plan for a viable future that is further enhanced through the proposed global alliance with Fiat," he added.

Renault va relocaliza in Franta productia modelului Clio, fabricat in prezent in Slovenia

Grupul Renault va relocaliza in Franta productia unui model fabricat pana acum in straintate, creand, in acest fel, circa 400 de locuri de munca, a anuntat vineri secretarul de stat pentru industrie, Luc Chatel, citat de AFP.
Potrivit unui delegat sindical, este vorba despre productia modelului Clio, care este fabricat in prezent in Slovenia.
"Astazi, grupul Renault va anunta repatrierea productiei unui vehicul, fabricat in prezent in afara Frantei, in uzinele Flins, in apropiere de Paris", a declarat Chatel, care este si purtator de cuvant al guvernului.
Aceasta relocare va crea "peste 400 de locuri de munca", a adaugat el.
Grupul Renault nu a dorit sa comenteze aceste informatii. sursa

DUBAI (Reuters) - Qatar is in talks to buy a stake in Germany's Porsche PSHF_p.DE and may also invest in other carmakers as the Gulf gas exporter looks to park some of its sovereign wealth abroad, according to media reports.

Qatar is "seriously" considering taking a stake in the luxury sports car manufacturer, Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani told Qatar's Al-Arab newspaper in remarks published on Tuesday.

Focus magazine reported last week that the Emir of Qatar had informed Porsche of his interest in buying a stake.

The official Qatar News Agency quoted Sheikh Hamad as saying the state is eyeing automotive companies, including German carmakers.

"We are looking into this issue, but we have yet to make a final decision on the matter ... There are meetings," he was quoted as saying by the agency.

Soaring oil prices had fueled a six-year boom across the Gulf Arab region that saw sovereign wealth funds flush with liquidity make investments all over the world.

But those funds have lost billions as financial markets plummeted in recent months, while Gulf Arab governments have lost revenue as oil prices fell to a third of their peak.

Gulf states promised to keep spending at home to maintain growth but said they would seek to snap up bargains once markets began to settle.

Abu Dhabi's state-controlled IPIC last month bought a 9.1 percent stake in Daimler (DAIGn.DE) for almost 2 billion euros ($2.6 billion) via exchange-listed investment vehicle Aabar (AABAR.AD).

Abu Dhabi, capital of the world's third-largest oil-exporter the United Arab Emirates, has made a number of international purchases in recent months.

Qatar is the biggest shareholder in Barclays Plc (BARC.L).

It cut its stake in the lender to 5.8 percent from just over 6 percent, Sheikh Hamad told QNA that was a "technical matter."

Qatar, the world's biggest liquefied natural gas exporter, stands to grow 7-9 percent in real terms this year despite the global downturn.

Dealerul a anuntat ca va renunta sa mai comercializeze autoturismele Honda pe piata clujeana si ca a reziliat contractul cu Honda Trading Romania, reprezentantul constructorului nipon pe piata romaneasca. Decizia a fost

Fiat and Chrysler have entered into a strategic alliance following the decision by the American firm to file for bankruptcy protection.

Chrysler entered discussions with Fiat over a year ago and the deal has been expected for some time.

Through the agreement, Chrysler says it will now be able to expand its product range and create more environmentally-friendly cars.

Under the alliance, Fiat will hold a 20 per cent stake in Chrysler, the Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association will own a 55 per cent share, and the US and Canadian governments will own proportionate shares of a 10 per cent stake.

Fiat will be able to increase its ownership stake by an additional 15 per cent in three stages by meeting different criteria:

- 5 per cent for bringing a 40mpg platform to Chrysler that will be produced in the US

- 5 per cent for producing a fuel-efficient engine family for Chrysler that will be made in the US

- 5 per cent for providing Chrysler access to its global distribution network to help export Chryslers

Bob Nardelli, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler, said: "This partnership transforms Chrysler into a vibrant new company with a wealth of strategic advantages.

Bi'turbo il inteleg, una la turatii joase si una la turatii inalte, da tri'turbo deja mare de show'off ...


exista biturbo pe scheme diferite:
- o turbina la turatii joase, una la turatii inalte (35d de la BMW)
- cite o turbina mai mica pentru fiecare grup de 3 cilindri din totalul de 6 (35i de la BMW)
- o turbina mica la turatii joase si turbina mica impreuna cu turbina mare la turatii inalte (noul 3.0D S de 240 CP si 275 CP de la Jaguar)

pe principiul asta, se pot face multe combinatii... ideea e, cu cit sunt mai multe componente, nu este fiabilitatea afectata?

au vazut ca 3.0sd chiar s-a dovedit fiabil, cu aproape nici o problema, fata de 3.0d unde am auzit diverse neajunsuri.

citez un sumar facut de catre posesorii de X5 3.0d
-galeria de admisie se fisureaza (400 eur noua)
-clapete admisie absorbite in cilindrii ( aici nu stiu ce sa zic, altii au preferat sa schimbe motorul)
-pompe de medie presiune care pica la greu (cam 200e buc.)
-mai rar injectoare, turbina (300 inj. nou, 1200 turbina)

sincer sa fiu, inca o data mi se par niste preturi de mare bun simt tinand cont ca e bmw. la renault, hyundai si chiar subaru sunt niste scoruri de nu stii de tine.

acu nu te supara pe mine...dar eficienta motoarelor si a solutiilor tehnice nu cred ca e asa usor de clarificat pe un forum
pana la urma nici unul nu avem habar ce inseamna sa proiectezi un motor
